Born on November 30, 1667 in Dublin, Swift spent much of his early adult life in England before returning to Dublin to serve as Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin for the last 30 years of his life. Swift is recognised as one of the leading prose satirists in the English language, with his biting wit and keen social commentary reflective of the turbulent political times he lived in.
