What is the term used for chemical secretions of endocrine glands responsible for changes taking place in the body?
The term used for chemical secretions of endocrine glands responsible for changes taking place in the body is hormones. These hormones play a vital role in adolescence and puberty, controlling bodily changes and reproductive maturity. They are released from various endocrine glands such as the pituitary gland, testes, ovaries, thyroid, pancreas, and adrenals. Changes at puberty like increase in height, change in body shape, voice change, activity of sweat and sebaceous glands, and development of sex organs are all regulated by these hormones. The male hormone, or testosterone and the female hormone, or estrogen particularly influence the sexual development during puberty.

Describe in detail the process of sex determination in humans. How do the X and Y chromosomes contribute to the determination of the baby's gender?
In the process of sex determination in humans, the sex chromosomes X and Y play a vital role. These chromosomes are present inside the nucleus of every cell. While females have two X chromosomes, males contain one X and one Y chromosome. When the fertilisation process happens, the unfertilised egg or ovum always contributes an X chromosome. However, sperm are of two kinds; one has an X chromosome, and the other kind possesses a Y chromosome.
If a sperm carrying an X chromosome fertilises the egg, the resulting zygote will possess two X chromosomes and will develop into a female child. Conversely, if the sperm contributes a Y chromosome, the zygote will develop into a male child. Therefore, the sex of a baby is determined by the type of sperm that fertilises the egg. Hence, it can be stated that the sex chromosomes of the father are ultimately responsible for the sex of an unborn baby.

What is the role of hormones in bringing about changes in an adolescent's body?
Hormones play a crucial role in transforming a child's body into an adult body during adolescence. They are responsible for the onset of puberty, sparking changes related to growth, mood, and sexual development. Specifically, the male hormone or testosterone, produced by the testes in boys, and the female hormone or estrogen, produced by ovaries in girls, initiate changes such as the growth of facial hair, development of breasts, and the starting of menstrual cycle in girls. These changes signify the body's readiness for reproduction.
