Deforestation is a major threat to the survival of organisms on earth. Discuss the major human and natural causes of deforestation. Outline the serious consequences this action can have on the environment, habitats, and overall ecosystem. Include discussion on how deforestation can lead to increased temperature, heightened pollution levels, decreased rainfall and soil fertility, and increased chances of natural calamities.
Deforestation, the clearing of forests for other purposes, is a major threat to the survival of organisms. Major human causes of deforestation include procuring land for cultivation, building houses and factories, and using wood for furniture and fuel. Natural causes involve forest fires and severe droughts. The consequences of deforestation are severe and far-reaching. It increases the earth's temperature and pollution levels, boosts the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and decreases rainfall and soil fertility. Deforestation also disrupts natural water cycles, leading to droughts and floods, and can ultimately cause desertification and a loss of biodiversity.
Explain the concept of biodiversity and its critical importance to the ecosystem. Discuss the importance of its conservation and the role of biosphere reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, and national parks in the conservation efforts.

How does deforestation affect the water cycle?
Deforestation has a direct impact on the water cycle. Trees and plants absorb groundwater and release it back into the atmosphere during photosynthesis. This cycle helps in maintaining Earth's overall climate by regulating temperature and atmospheric moisture levels. When forests are cut down, it disturbs the water cycle. It reduces evaporation and transpiration, which results in lesser cloud formation and, thus, lesser rainfall. This could cause dry seasons to become drier and longer, leading to droughts.
Define the term 'endemic species'. Give an example of endemic flora and fauna.
