Write in your own words two or more sentences of what you understand by the word ‘marginalisation’.
Marginalisation refers to the scenario where certain groups or communities are pushed to the edge of society, hence deprived of actively participating or contributing to the main events or decisions. These groups often suffer from disadvantage, powerlessness, and exclusion from resources and decision-making processes due to social, economic, cultural and political factors. In essence, they are not at the centre of things and often face discrimination, prejudice, and inequality.

In what ways can marginalisation affect a person or community's life, according to the chapter?
Marginalisation can significantly impact a person or community's life. Economically, it can deprive them of access to resources such as land and forest resources, leading to loss of livelihood and extreme poverty. This deprivation can result in displacement and forced migration, reduced access to education, and malnutrition, as seen with Adivasis and Muslim communities in India. Socially, marginalised groups often face prejudice and discrimination, and their customs and ways of life can be threatened. They are also increasingly vulnerable, powerless, and have a low social status. This can lead to exclusion, insecurity, and a feeling of not being a part of society.
How do the struggles of the Adivasis for their land rights reflect their experiences of marginalisation?
