Hugh Lofting (1886-1947) was a British author and illustrator, best known for his classic children's book series, "Doctor Dolittle." Born in Maidenhead, England, Lofting studied civil engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and later worked as a civil engineer in various countries.
