William Wordsworth (1770-1850) was a prominent English Romantic poet who, along with Samuel Taylor Coleridge, helped to launch the Romantic Age in English literature with their joint publication, "Lyrical Ballads" in 1798. Known for his love of nature and his use of everyday language and subjects in his works, Wordsworth's poems are mostly centered on the theme of the relationship of the human mind to nature. He was named England's Poet Laureate in 1843 and held the position until his death. Some of his most acknowledged works include "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud," "The Prelude," and "Tintern Abbey."
