1887: At the age of 7, Keller met her lifelong teacher and companion, Anne Sullivan, who taught her to communicate.
1898: Keller and Sullivan moved to New York to attend the Wright-Humason School for the Deaf.
1900: Keller enrolled at Radcliffe College, becoming the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
1903: She published her autobiography, "The Story of My Life".
1915: She co-founded Helen Keller International, an organisation focused on research in vision, health and nutrition.
1920: She helped to found the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
1964: President Lyndon B. Johnson awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
1968: Helen Keller died on June 1.
