About the Author - My Financial Career | English Castle | Class 8 Literature | English
Stephen Butler Leacock was a Canadian teacher, political scientist, writer, and humorist renowned for his light and humorous touch. He was born on December 30, 1869, in Hampshire, England, and his family moved to Canada when he was just six years old. He attended Upper Canada College, where he showed great academic prowess and later studied at the University of Toronto and received a Ph.D. in political economy from the University of Chicago.
Leacock is best known for his humorous literature, and during the early 20th century, he was one of the most famous humorists in the English-speaking world. His most notable work is the book "Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town," which is a collection of stories based on his life experiences. "My Financial Career" is another famous short story by him.
Besides writing, Leacock had a fruitful career in academia. He was a lecturer at McGill University in Montreal for many years, where he held the position of Departmental head of Political Economy until his retirement in 1936. Leacock passed away on March 28, 1944. His legacy continues to thrive in the form of awards, honours, and festivals held to celebrate his contribution to literature.
