Apart from poetry, he also contributed significantly to criticism, playwriting, and edited various literary magazines. Ezekiel was honored with the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983 for his collection "Later-Day Psalms." He passed away on January 9, 2004 in Mumbai, India.
