Eva Ibbotson was a renowned British novelist known for her children's books and adult romances. She was born in Vienna in 1925 and moved to England with her family when the Nazis came into power. Ibbotson wrote more than twenty books for children and young adults, many of which have been shortlisted for numerous literary prizes, including the Whitbread Prize, and the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize, and her popular works include "Which Witch", "The Secret of Platform 13", "Journey to the River Sea", and "The Star of Kazan". In 2012, she was posthumously awarded the Romantic Novelists' Association's Lifetime Achievement Award. Ibbotson wrote with great humanity and a true understanding of nature and animals. Her writing style is often humorous, compassionate, and always captivating. Eva Ibbotson passed away in October 2010.
