Kailash Satyarthi is an internationally acclaimed child rights activist from India who has been at the forefront of the global movement to end child slavery and exploitative child labor since 1980. He gave up his career as an electrical engineer to undertake the challenge of leading the mission to eliminate child servitude. Satyarthi’s efforts resulted in the creation of the Global March Against Child Labor in the late '90s and the adoption of Convention No. 182 by the International Labour Organization.
He founded the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (Save the Childhood Movement) and has worked to protect the rights of more than 83,000 children from 144 countries. His work has been recognized through various international honors and awards including the Nobel Peace Prize of 2014, which he shared with Malala Yousafzai.
Satyarthi’s contributions towards the cause of child rights are built on his firm belief that every child deserves the right to live their childhood freely, in peace and dignity. He continues to work tirelessly towards this vision through various initiatives under the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation.
