  1. Why does a beekeeper use a black silk net?

  2. Are there alternative tools the beekeeper could use?

  3. How does the black silk net protect the beekeeper?

1. A beekeeper uses a black silk net to prevent an angry bee from stinging him. This veil is usually worn over the head and neck area, providing a protective barrier between the bees and the beekeeper's skin.

2. Apart from the black silk net, beekeepers also use other tools like a hive tool that assists in the removal of combs and parts of the hive stuck down with propolis, and a smoker, a crucial appliance that helps to calm the bees.

3. The black silk net acts as a physical barrier that prevents the bees from gaining direct access to the beekeeper's skin. This significantly reduces the risk of stings, thus offering a level of protection to the beekeeper while working with the bees.

Henry Reginald Gamble, born on November 6, 1859, and died on August 9, 1931, was an Anglican priest and author, serving as the Dean of Exeter in the Church of England from 1918 to 1931. Gamble studied at Oriel College, Oxford, and was ordained in 1885. He held curacies at several churches including All Saints, Molton, Devon, St Mark's, Hamilton Terrace, and St Andrew's, Wells Street.

Gamble served as a Canon of Westminster and Rector of St John the Evangelist until he was appointed to the Deanery, where he served until his death in 1931.

He mingled his life's work with his personal life seamlessly, marrying Helen Maud Isherwood and having two children, Patrick Gamble and Anthea Rosemary Gamble Carew. Despite his numerous professional accomplishments, his legacy continues in his written works as an author.
