M G K Menon, full name Mambillikalathil Govind Kumar Menon, was an acclaimed Indian physicist recognized globally for his work in the field of particle physics. He was born on August 28, 1928, in Mangalore, Karnataka, India. Menon was instrumental in setting up several national institutions and science and technology initiatives in the country.

Menon's contributions were not limited to the field of science alone. He took on various roles in science policy, administration, and education throughout his career. Menon served as the Minister of State for Science, Technology and Education in the Government of India, and also as a Member of Parliament. He was also the Director of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), and scientific advisor to several Prime Ministers.

Throughout his career, Menon received several awards and recognitions. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India's second-highest civilian honour, in 1985. In 1999, he received the prestigious 'Lifetime Achievement Award' by the Indian Science Congress. Menon passed away on November 22, 2016, leaving behind a vast and significant contribution to the world of science and technology.
